Expanding the scale of enrollment in Hong Kong
Since the 2012/13 academic year, the "Diploma Examination Admission Plan" implemented by the Ministry of Education has opened up a new path for Hong Kong students to enter mainland universities.
Under the plan, 138 mainland universities such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, and Wuhan University will select and admit applicants based on their DSE scores, exempting them from the need to take the mainland joint entrance examination.

The "Diploma Examination Admissions Plan" for the 2024/25 academic year will announce the admission results in late July. Guangdong universities have begun to admit DSE candidates in July.
According to Ta Kung Pao, this year, Hong Kong students' enthusiasm for mainland universities continues to rise, and the number of applicants has steadily increased.
In an interview, admissions officers of universities such as Jinan University and Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine said that in view of the increase in the number of applicants, the scale of admissions to Hong Kong this year has expanded compared with previous years.
Take some universities in Guangdong as an example:
★ Jinan University:
Plan to enroll 400 Hong Kong DSE candidates (currently there are more than 7,000 Hong Kong students on campus).
★ Sun Yat-sen University:
Plan to enroll 150 Hong Kong DSE candidates and increase the number of admissions depending on the situation.
★ Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine:
Plan to enroll 100 Hong Kong DSE candidates, an increase of 20 places from last year.

The quotas are usually not directly competed with mainland college entrance examination candidates, so Hong Kong students have more advantages.
2. Enrollment in Hong Kong's prestigious schools
At the same time, holding Hong Kong identity also shows significant advantages in enrolling in local institutions in Hong Kong.
Specifically, among the eight subsidized universities in Hong Kong, Hong Kong students enjoy 60% of the places, and the tuition fees are only about a quarter of those of non-local (including mainland) students.
3. Enrollment in overseas prestigious schools
In addition, Hong Kong DSE test results are highly recognized internationally. Candidates can apply for more than 600 overseas institutions with DSE results, including Yale University and New York University in the United States, Cambridge University and University College London in the United Kingdom, Australian National University, University of Sydney, University of Toronto and Simon Fraser University in Canada.
In addition, the Spanish Ministry of Education recently officially announced the recognition of DSE results. Qualified DSE candidates can directly apply for enrollment in more than 90 institutions in Spain without having to take the entrance examination.
