Australian authorities have issued four $5500 breach notices to four different international travelers within five days for breaching Australia's biosecurity laws.

The biosecurity risk substances seized included macadamia nut cuttings, cotton tree seeds, arrowroot tubers and mangoes with seeds.
On 18 May 2023, a third passenger arrived at Melbourne International Airport from Vietnam. He tried to hide the plant cuttings from the suitcase in a Botox box wrapped in tissue paper.
On 20 May 2023, a fourth passenger arrived at Brisbane International Airport from Vietnam. He tried to hide nine plant cuttings inside an unopened foil bag labeled as tea leaves.
Biosafety and compliance group deputy secretary Dr Chris Locke said there were severe penalties for deliberate circumvention of our biosecurity laws, noting biosecurity officers issued $22,000 worth of breach notices within five days.
