On July 18, the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority announced the overall situation of this year's DSE results. A total of 42,391 school candidates and 6,371 self-study students took the exam.
Among the candidates from 426 full-time schools, about 90% of the students chose the four core subjects of Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics and General Education, as well as 2-3 elective subjects.
4 champions were born on the day of the ranking release
On July 19, nearly 50,000 candidates ushered in the exciting moment of ranking release.
It is reported that this year DSE candidates were born 4 "champions", that is, 7 subjects "5**". They come from three traditional prestigious schools, namely St. Paul's Co-educational High School, Queen's College and Good Hope School.
Among them, 3 people got "5**" in the mathematics extension part at the same time, becoming this year's "Super Champion".
Multiple pathways for further studies
On July 19, Dr. Cai Ruolian, the Secretary for Education of Hong Kong, said during her visit to Yan Chai Hospital Law Chan Chu Si Secondary School:
"There are more than 50,000 candidates for the HKDSE this year. Local post-secondary institutions and training institutions provide a total of about 22,600 bachelor's degrees and 23,000 sub-degree places. In addition to other vocational paths, students do have many different paths."
Professor Wei Xiangdong, Secretary-General of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority, pointed out that the Diploma Examination (DSE) is indeed an important milestone in life, but candidates should take a longer view.
Professor Wei Xiangdong encouraged candidates to say: "Don't let the test results define your life. The Diploma Examination (DSE) is now widely recognized locally and overseas, providing candidates with a variety of opportunities for further study and career development. As long as candidates actively grasp different opportunities, they will surely find a way out that suits them."
Recruiting colleges
The results of the HKDSE have been widely recognized. Candidates can not only rely on the results of the HKDSE to further their education or employment locally, but also directly apply to non-local universities or post-secondary institutions.
At present, more than 130 institutions of higher learning in the mainland and about 130 institutions of higher learning in Taiwan directly admit Hong Kong students based on the results of the HKDSE, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University and other double-first-class universities.
In addition, more than 600 non-local higher education institutions accept students to apply for admission to undergraduate programs on the basis of HKDSE results.
These schools include not only English-speaking countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and the United States, but also more than 300 German public universities.
