Recently, the Australian Immigration Bureau released the latest visa language requirements, which is of great significance to the majority of visa applicants.
According to the latest regulations, visa applicants need to provide English scores that meet the requirements. So, what English language scores are currently supported and not recognized by the Immigration Bureau?
New TOEFL scores are no longer accepted
From 26 July 2023, the TOEFL iBT will no longer be accepted by the Australian Immigration Service as an English language test for visa purposes until further notice.
This provision has important implications for applicants planning to study or work in Australia.
No longer accepting online English scores
The Australian Department of Home Affairs no longer accepts online English language scores.
While some test providers offer "alternative versions" of English tests for applicants to take at home or online, such as TOEFL iBT – Special Home Edition, OET@Home, IELTS Indicator and IELTS Online, these test scores are not accepted by the Australian Department of Home Affairs , nor meet the 'at-home' or 'online' test requirements for planning Australian status.
Acceptable English Test Types
According to the latest regulations of the Australian Immigration Service, for the language requirements of this visa, the scores of the following tests will be accepted as the criteria for meeting the conditions:
- IELTS International English Language Test (IELTS), including IELTS Single Section Retake Score (OSR)
- Pearson Test of English (PTE)
- Cambridge English (CAE, also known as C1 Advanced)
- Occupational English Test (OET), a test developed for health professionals
It is important to note that OSR cannot be used for 476/482/485 visa applications.
For the vast number of visa applicants, it is very important to choose an appropriate English test. This is not only related to the visa application itself, but also directly affects the scoring of skilled immigration EOI.
