good news
Starting next year, Singapore will no longer need a passport when leaving Singapore, and you can pass through customs with your face!
Enabling new biometric departure procedures
Recently, the Second Minister of the Ministry of Home Affairs of Singapore, Yang Liming, proposed the "Immigration Law Amendment" for the first time in the Parliament, announcing an important new policy.
According to the new policy, from next year, Singapore Changi Airport will introduce a new biometric authentication departure procedure, aiming to provide a more convenient and efficient customs clearance experience for departing passengers.
The specific content of Singapore's "Amendment"
★Swipe your face to clear the level
From next year, according to the new boarding procedure, the passenger's personal and boarding data will be digitized in the background.
With the help of biometric authentication technology, such as iris and facial recognition technology, these data can be read, and passengers will no longer need to produce passports or boarding passes when checking luggage, security checks or boarding flights.
The new policy will simplify the customs clearance procedures for passengers in baggage check-in, exit inspection and boarding, and will no longer require the production of physical passports and boarding passes, thus saving precious time.
This move will further enhance Singapore Changi Airport's status as an international aviation hub and provide passengers with a more convenient way to travel.
★Privacy protection
The amendment gives the Home Affairs Minister powers to allow airport operators to obtain personal data of passengers and crew for certain purposes.
These data will be cleared after a short period of retention, and relevant departments will take appropriate security measures.
Entering the country by car can scan the QR code of the passport to pass the customs
Starting early next year, passengers entering Singapore by vehicle can generate a personal passport QR code through the MyICA mobile app, or scan the machine-readable code on the passport to create a group QR code for all passengers on board.
When the vehicle arrives at the Singapore immigration counter, the driver only needs to scan the QR code, and the system will automatically extract the personal information of all passengers on board.
Afterwards, Singapore immigration officials will verify the number of passengers and ensure that all passengers meet the entry requirements. (Foreigners entering Singapore for the first time still need to submit their passports)
Once approved for entry, the railings will be raised.
It is foreseeable that entry and exit from Singapore will become faster and more convenient in the future, which is undoubtedly great news for Singapore residents and tourists.
