The Hong Kong Quality Migrant Admission Scheme (QMAS) has seen a boom in applications
Since its official implementation in June 2006, the Hong Kong Quality Migrant Admission Scheme (QMAS) has been committed to attracting highly skilled and outstanding talents from around the world to settle in Hong Kong, thereby enhancing Hong Kong's international competitiveness.
Starting from 2023, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, in a bid to be more open to the world's top talents, has decided to abolish the annual quota restriction of the scheme in the next two years. The move has quickly galvanized a surge in applications, with a spurt of applications.
For the whole year of 2022, the Hong Kong Immigration Department received a total of 16,396 applications under the QMAS, of which 2,845 were approved.
According to the latest official statistics, the total number of applications under the QMAS has jumped to 115,167 from late 2022 to the end of June 2024, of which 18,583 applications were successfully approved.
In view of the sharp rise in the number of applications, the processing speed of the Hong Kong Immigration Department has slowed down accordingly. However, in general, the approval process will be completed within 9 to 12 months, so those who have already submitted their applications can wait for the good news.
