O'Sullivan settles in Hong Kong
O'Sullivan, 48, is a legend in the pool world. Not only is he able to “shoot left and right”, but he also shot the fastest 147 perfect score ever in 1997 in just 5 minutes and 08 seconds, earning him the nickname “The Rocket”.
As the pool player with the most perfect scores, he topped the World Pool Ranking and is still in fifth place.
On October 31, the Hong Kong Immigration Department released a video on social media platforms confirming that O'Sullivan had been granted Hong Kong resident status through the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme.
In the video, the Director of Immigration, Mr. Kwok Chun-fung, welcomed and congratulated Osullivan, who also highly praised Hong Kong and shared his reasons for choosing to move to Hong Kong in the video.
On the same day, while attending a press conference for the 2024 Macau Snooker Masters Invitational Tournament in Macau, Ossuriyun revealed that he spends up to four to five months a year in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.
After obtaining his Hong Kong ID card, he intends to stay in Hong Kong most of the time and expects to move to Hong Kong for settlement in as soon as four years.

Why settle in Hong Kong?
In the video, Kwok Chun Fung asked Osuliyun, “You have traveled to many countries and places around the world, why did you choose Hong Kong as a new place to move to now?”
Osuliyun responded that he has lived in Hong Kong for a longer period of time and likes it very much. For a foreigner like him, Hong Kong's food is diverse and delicious, its culture is diverse and vibrant, and its living environment is comfortable, making it a very desirable place to live.
He said, “If you want to have a good life, you must come to Hong Kong.”
At the same time, O'Sullivan said Hong Kong has a good tax system and his Hong Kong status makes it easier for him to travel. Specifically:
In terms of the tax system, Hong Kong has a low and simple tax system, with a maximum personal income tax of no more than 17 percent and a corporate income tax rate of 16.5 percent. Moreover, Hong Kong is also free of capital gains tax, gift tax, estate duty, value-added tax, sales tax and business tax.
In terms of travel, according to the latest Henry's Passport Index ranking, holding a Hong Kong passport allows visa-free travel to 170 countries and regions worldwide, making it very convenient to travel to the Mainland, Macau, or other countries.
After successfully moving to Hong Kong, Osuliyun laughed that his life has become much easier, especially when participating in competitions in the Asian region.
However, he made it clear that Hong Kong is by no means a transit point for him, but a home in the true sense of the word. He intends to learn Cantonese to better integrate into Hong Kong society and plans to actively promote pool in Hong Kong in the future.
Apart from O'Sullivan, there are many other celebrities who have acquired Hong Kong status through various talent programs, including Fu Mingxia, Guo Jingjing and Stephon Marbury in the sports sector, Tsang Yuk-kwan and Li Ning in the business sector, as well as Lang Lang, Li Yundi, Zhang Ziyi, Tang Wei and others in the show business sector.
Having a Hong Kong identity means they can enjoy multiple advantages such as a better living environment, travel convenience, abundant development opportunities, as well as quality education planning and asset allocation for their children.
